The St Lucia Tourism Authority (STA) says the island recorded its highest-ever April stay-over arrivals this year, marking continued growth in visitor numbers across key source markets.

Figures released by the STA show that 40,752 stay-over visitors arrived in April 2026, representing an 8.5 per cent increase compared to the same month last year. Year-to-date arrivals are up 3.7 per cent, which the authority says reflects the island’s sustained appeal as a Caribbean destination and the impact of ongoing marketing, airlift expansion and event-driven strategies.

The United States market continued its upward trend, adding 900 additional visitors. The Caribbean market posted the strongest regional growth, increasing by 39.6 per cent, or 1,954 visitors. Canada also showed significant gains, rising by 45.9 per cent with an additional 1,205 arrivals.

Tourism officials said expanded air connectivity has supported this growth. WestJet has increased its service to twice weekly compared to April 2025, while Air Canada is expected to upgrade its service in June 2026, adding more seat capacity to the destination.

While the United Kingdom market recorded a decline of around 930 visitors, the STA said overall performance remained strong and reflected continued diversification in source markets.

The island’s cruise and yachting sectors also posted notable increases. Yacht arrivals rose by 44 per cent, while cruise arrivals grew by 34 per cent year over year.

Tourism Minister Dr. Ernest Hilaire said the latest figures show a more balanced and experience-driven growth pattern for the destination.

“We are seeing stronger regional travel, increased Canadian demand, higher visitor participation within the cruise sector, and global digital exposure that continues to elevate the destination in new and exciting ways that inspire people to engage more deeply with the island, its culture, and its people,” he said.

The STA said its recent marketing initiatives have helped maintain momentum, including its “What Kind of Summer Are You?” campaign, alongside major cultural and sporting events such as the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and Creole Heritage Month.

The authority said it remains optimistic about continued growth through 2026 as it strengthens international partnerships, expands global reach and enhances the visitor experience.
