Jamaican-born Judith Green has been appointed World Bank Group country manager for Barbados and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), effective Sept. 1.
Green, who will be based in Barbados, will represent three arms of the World Bank Group — the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
The Washington-based institution said the unified leadership role is intended to strengthen its support for public- and private-sector priorities in Barbados and the OECS, with Green working alongside governments and businesses to advance job creation and sustainable development across the subregion.
Green, a Jamaican national, brings extensive experience within the World Bank Group to the position.
Most recently, she served concurrently as World Bank Group country manager for Malaysia and IFC country manager for Papua New Guinea, the Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand.
In those roles, Green worked with the public and private sectors on reforms aimed at increasing private investment in Malaysia and the Pacific region. She also managed large advisory services programs.
Green previously served as IFC country manager for the Caribbean, overseeing the organization's operations across 14 member countries, including Haiti and the Dominican Republic. She was responsible for managing and expanding IFC operations throughout the subregion.
Her career has also included a key role in Jamaica's economic reform program.
Between 2013 and 2016, while on external service leave from the IFC, Green led the Jamaican government's Coordination and Implementation Unit, which oversaw the implementation of the country's four-year Extended Fund Facility with the International Monetary Fund.
The IMF agreement, reached in 2013, formed a central part of Jamaica's economic reform program during that period.
Before joining the World Bank Group, Green worked at several financial institutions, focusing on corporate finance and global loan capital markets.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of the West Indies and is a fellow of both the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in the United Kingdom and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica.
