Scotland batter Ailsa Lister has been officially reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during Scotland’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group B match against the West Indies.
The incident occurred during Scotland’s narrow seven-run defeat in Leeds, where the team fell just short while chasing a target of 154.
Lister was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.”
Along with the official reprimand, one demerit point has been added to Lister’s disciplinary record. It was her first offence during the previous 24-month period.
Heated departure after dismissal triggers review
The breach took place during the 19th over of Scotland’s innings.
After being dismissed, Lister showed visible frustration while leaving the field, throwing her bat and gloves to the ground before kicking and knocking over a bin near the team dugout area.
The moment prompted action from match officials, who determined that the behavior fell under the ICC’s Level 1 category of offences.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Kerrin Klaaste, along with third umpire N. Janani and fourth umpire Nimali Perera.
Lister admitted the offence and accepted the proposed punishment from GS Lakshmi of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
Because the sanction was accepted, there was no need for a formal disciplinary hearing.
ICC outlines penalty range for Level 1 breaches
Level 1 violations under the ICC Code of Conduct carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 percent of a player’s match fee.
Players can also receive one or two demerit points depending on the severity of the offence.
In Lister’s case, the punishment remained at the minimum level, with the reprimand and a single demerit point added to her record.
The disciplinary matter followed a tightly contested match in which Scotland came within reach of a memorable victory.
The West Indies posted 154 runs, and Scotland battled throughout the chase before ultimately falling seven runs short.
While Lister’s reaction brought unwanted attention after the game, Scotland’s performance showed their competitiveness on the global stage.
