Rare 4.0 magnitude earthquake rattles Florida’s east coast

Authorities in Florida are gathering reports from residents who experienced tremors from a 4.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast, as announced by the National Weather Service.

Reports are that the earthquake occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, roughly 100 miles east of Cape Canaveral, according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey.

History of earthquakes in Florida 

Florida has experienced earthquakes in the past.

In September 2006, a significant quake measuring 5.9 magnitude originated in the Gulf of Mexico, causing ripples of sensation across Florida and neighboring states.

During the 2006 quake, which made its presence felt across Florida, items were reportedly dislodged from shelves, and some residents observed unusual activity in their swimming pools, according to USGS reports.
