Businesses in South Florida will have an opportunity to explore contracting opportunities tied to a $1 billion mixed-use development in Miramar at the city's fifth annual Business Industry Development (BID) Connect to Grow Business Expo on November 16.
Hosted by the City of Miramar's Economic Development & Housing Department, the free event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Miami Dade College's North Campus in Miami.
A major focus will be Miramar Cove, a 125-acre mixed-use development currently underway in the city. Business owners and contractors will have an opportunity to meet with project representatives and learn about potential contracts associated with the development, which is expected to include residential, retail, hospitality and recreational spaces.
“It will take a tremendous amount of sweat equity, not to mention gas prices, for a small business to be able to access all of the resources that will be available to them at this one event,” said Dr. Karen Hollis, Miramar's chief BID administrator.
The expo will also feature approximately 60 vendors and procurement representatives from neighboring municipalities, giving businesses access to information about public- and private-sector opportunities, services and potential partnerships.
City officials will additionally share details about approved and budgeted Capital Improvement Projects expected to enter the procurement process during the new fiscal year.
The annual event brings together entrepreneurs, government agencies, chambers of commerce, educational institutions, developers and prime contractors to support business development and expand regional economic opportunities.
Last year's expo attracted more than 1,200 business registrations, according to the city.
Business owners, contractors and entrepreneurs interested in attending can register online at miramarbusinessexpo.eventbrite.com. Admission is free, with breakfast and lunch provided.
The expo will be held at the School of Justice, Building J, Miami Dade College's North Campus, 11380 NW 27th Avenue, Miami, Florida.
The city's Business Industry Development Program provides businesses with technical assistance, professional development, training and other resources to help them build capacity and compete for contracting opportunities.
