Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins has announced two leadership appointments, naming Maca Casado as chief of staff and Marta Viciedo as chief strategy officer.

The appointments, announced Monday, November 2, expand the responsibilities of both officials, who have been members of Higgins' senior leadership team since the beginning of her administration.

Casado previously served as senior adviser and communications director to the mayor, overseeing communications strategy, public affairs issues and community engagement.

She brings experience in government, political campaigns and strategic communications. Her previous positions include vice president of communications at Operativo, coalition media director and national senior spokesperson for the Harris-Walz presidential campaign, and senior communications roles at the Democratic National Committee and the Florida Department of Agriculture. She also worked on President Joe Biden's 2020 presidential campaign and for former Congresswoman Donna Shalala.

As chief of staff, Casado will lead the Mayor's Office, coordinate the mayor's senior team and work with city leadership and employees to advance the administration's priorities.

"From day one, my administration has been focused on building a City Hall that works for the people of Miami, and that starts with strong, experienced leadership," Higgins said.

The mayor described Casado as a trusted strategic adviser with experience navigating complex challenges and bringing people together to deliver results.

Viciedo, who previously served as senior adviser and director of strategic initiatives and economic growth in the Mayor's Office, will oversee key strategic initiatives and help advance the administration's policy agenda.

Her previous experience includes serving as Miami director at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and co-founding Urban Impact Lab and Transit Alliance Miami.

In her new role, Viciedo will lead the mayor's signature initiatives, including Elevate Small Business, Develop to Serve and permitting reform.

"These appointments will strengthen our ability to lead with urgency, accountability, and a focus on results," Higgins said.

The appointments are part of the mayor's effort to strengthen government performance, improve public trust and advance priorities focused on delivering services and economic opportunities for Miami residents.
