The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) issued more than 2,500 traffic citations during a six-month enforcement initiative aimed at reducing speeding, aggressive driving, reckless driving and other dangerous behaviors on roads across Miami-Dade County.

The initiative, conducted in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) through a state-funded traffic safety grant, involved targeted enforcement by deputies from the MDSO Air Support Unit and Motorcycle Unit.

Over the six-month period, the units conducted 58 enforcement details and made 3,100 contacts with motorists, resulting in 2,545 citations.

The operations also led to nine arrests, including two felony arrests, two misdemeanor arrests, four arrests on bench warrants and one DUI arrest.

The initiative focused on areas where speeding, traffic crashes and aggressive driving had been identified as ongoing concerns.

MDSO said the enforcement efforts were designed to improve roadway safety, encourage responsible driving and reduce preventable crashes.

The operations targeted violations that can place motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and other road users at risk.

In addition to traffic enforcement, MDSO deputies participated in community events to educate residents about the dangers of excessive speeding and aggressive driving.

The sheriff’s office also partnered with the Florida Highway Patrol during the Southern Slow Down Campaign. The joint enforcement efforts were conducted on the Florida Turnpike, Palmetto Expressway and other local expressways.

MDSO is urging motorists to obey posted speed limits, maintain a safe following distance, avoid aggressive driving and remain focused while behind the wheel.

Drivers are also being encouraged to eliminate distractions and share the road responsibly with pedestrians, cyclists and other road users.

The sheriff’s office said it remains committed to working with community and state partners to enhance traffic safety and reduce dangerous driving behaviors throughout Miami-Dade County.

“A citation can be costly, but the consequences of reckless or aggressive driving can be far greater,” MDSO said, urging motorists to slow down and drive responsibly.
