Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd is urging residents to participate in Tuesday’s primary election, reminding voters that polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time on Aug. 18.
Byrd issued the election readiness update Monday, outlining key information for voters ahead of Election Day.
“Florida’s Primary Election is Tuesday, August 18 and polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time. I encourage all Florida voters to exercise their right to vote,” Byrd said.
Preliminary unofficial election results will be available through the Florida Election Watch website after polls close. Because Florida operates across Eastern and Central time zones, results will begin being posted at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
Voters who are in line at 7 p.m. will be allowed to cast their ballots. On Election Day, voters must cast their ballots at their assigned polling place.
Voters can find their polling location on their voter information card, by contacting their county Supervisor of Elections or through the Florida Division of Elections' voter status lookup tool.
Voters must show identification
Florida law requires voters to present a current and valid photo ID when voting during early voting or on Election Day.
Acceptable forms of identification include several government-issued photo IDs, according to the Florida Division of Elections.
Voters who do not have an acceptable ID should check with their county Supervisor of Elections for information about their voting options.
Election results and turnout
The Florida Election Watch website will provide preliminary unofficial election results after 8 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday.
The Division of Elections is also publishing daily statistics on early voting and vote-by-mail ballots based on reports submitted by county Supervisors of Elections. Individual county election offices will also provide voting statistics on their websites.
Voter turnout figures will be updated hourly on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time.
Florida voters can monitor turnout and preliminary election results through the state's election information resources as results are reported Tuesday night.
