JDF rescues stranded residents in St Thomas amid severe flooding

The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) assisted more than 20 individuals who were stranded at Hordley Crossing in St. Thomas since Thursday. 

Residents brought to shelter 

According to reports, the persons airlifted were traveling in nine vehicles when they became stranded. 

On Friday morning, the JDF AW airlifted the stranded residents to the Wheelersfield Community Center in the parish.

Initial rescue attempts by the police and fire department were thwarted as the floodwaters surged.

The police have advised motorists to avoid using the area.

Jamaica experiences severe weather

Jamaica is currently facing adverse weather conditions characterized by heavy rainfall and strong winds.

The Met Service had issued a tropical storm watch for the island.
