A 25-year-old Jamaican woman has been arrested in Florida after she allegedly collected $8,000 in cash from a 74-year-old woman who had been targeted in a bank impersonation scam.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the victim was contacted by someone posing as her bank and instructed to withdraw $8,000 for a courier to collect.

The woman later realized she had been scammed and contacted law enforcement. She provided deputies with the license plate number of the vehicle used by the courier.

Sgt. Leven was able to use the information to track down the location where the cash was collected. Surveillance footage reportedly showed the courier handing the package to 25-year-old Amoye Jameison of Jamaica.

Jameison was charged with organized scheme to defraud and grand theft, according to the sheriff’s office. She is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond.

The sheriff’s office said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was contacted because Jameison is in the United States on an expired visa.

The $8,000 was recovered and returned to the victim.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said the arrest followed a response by District 1 deputies and its Financial Crimes Unit.
