Celebrating International Day for Women in Maritime 2024

The International Day for Women in Maritime 2024 was celebrated globally on May 18, with this year’s theme titled “Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety.”

This theme highlights the critical role of investing in women to foster advancement within the maritime sector.

Minister Vaz emphasized that such investments not only benefit individual women but also propel economic growth, innovation, and sustainability across the industry.

The Value of Gender Diversity in Maritime

Minister Vaz, who also oversees maritime affairs in Jamaica, highlighted research indicating that gender-diverse teams enhance decision-making and improve business outcomes.

He pointed out that women’s expertise, creativity, and dedication are essential for spurring innovation and progress in maritime operations, including navigation, logistics, research, and leadership roles.
