Jamaican government commits to enhance the lives of Jamaicans
Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness has emphasized the government’s unwavering dedication to fostering social cohesion, diminishing inequality, and enhancing the quality of life for all Jamaicans.
He highlighted the importance of not compromising the well-being of the most disadvantaged groups in favor of short-term benefits.
Honoring legacy and continuing commitment
During the ceremony for the unveiling of the Lynden G. Newland bust at National Heroes Circle in Kingston on May 22, Prime Minister Holness praised the late former Labour Minister, who established the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) in 1966.
He credited Mr. Newland for devising one of the pivotal safety-net protections for the needy, acknowledging his vision and determination to resist external pressures while focusing on the most vulnerable members of society.
Economic stability and growth
Prime Minister Holness reiterated the government’s commitment to robust macroeconomic policies.
He referenced the government’s successful track record in economic management, highlighted by nine consecutive budgets without new taxes.
This fiscal discipline, according to the Prime Minister, has been crucial in promoting economic stability and growth, allowing Jamaica to navigate external challenges and uncertainties.
