Jamaican drowns while swimming at beach in Cayman

Authorities in the Cayman Islands have released the identity of a 21-year-old man who died earlier this week in a drowning incident.

The victim, Rovyn Jerone Cameron, hailed from Jamaica but was residing in the Cayman Islands at the time of his death. 

The incident marks the eighth drowning fatality in the Cayman Islands this year, shedding light on the growing concern for water safety in the region.

Events leading to the tragedy

Reports are that bystanders alerted emergency services at approximately on Monday evening after noticing Cameron swimming farther away from the shoreline and experienced difficulties in the water before losing consciousness.

Heroic but futile attempts at rescue

It is reported that members of the public rushed to assist Cameron, pulling him out of the water and administering CPR in an effort to revive him. 

Cameron was then transported to Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town, where he was pronounced dead.
