Bell, 79, died at his home in Bellingham, Washington on Thursday.
The cause of his death has not been disclosed. He is survived by his wife Vanessa and six children.
The soul music iconl is credited on several classics including the O’Jays’ ‘Back Stabbers’, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes’ ‘I Miss You’, and The Stylistics' Betcha By Golly Wow’. He is also one of the key architects of ‘Sound of Philadelphia’ brand of soul music along with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.
In 1975, Bell was a recipient of the Grammy Award for producer of the year; and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006.
Bell was born in Jamaica in 1943 and migrated to Philadelphia in the United States as a child where he was raised with his siblings.
