The Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities (MICT) Monday expressed concern over the disappearance of the Mayor of the Commune of Estère, Senèque Estimable, who was last seen walking towards the capital five days ago.

Unexplained disappearance

In a statement, the Ministry said it is urging citizens to remain calm, especially the residents of Estere, a commune in the Gonaïves Arrondissement, in the Artibonite department of Haiti, which has ransacked public buildings “in reaction to this previously unexplained disappearance” of the Mayor.

The Ministry said that Estimable was last seen on May 23 walking  in the direction of the capital.

Investigation launched

“Since then, the family, relatives and sympathizers of the City Councilor have no news” regarding the Mayor, the Ministry said, noting that the authorities have already launched an investigation into the matter. It said that a team from the MICT has also visited Estère.

“The Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities invites all persons with information likely to help shed light on this issue, to inform local authorities as soon as possible.”
