Guyana supports Biden’s initiative to cease fire in Israel-Gaza conflict

Guyana has expressed support for recent initiatives by the United States aimed at halting the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The government of Guyana released a statement supporting a ceasefire proposal presented by U.S. President Joe Biden, emphasizing that the plan is consistent with previous United Nations resolutions, which Guyana has backed.

Details of the ceasefire proposal

The ceasefire initiative laid out by President Biden involves multiple steps designed to bring an immediate end to the fighting.

Key components of the plan include the cessation of all hostilities, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from densely populated areas in Gaza, and the return of hostages along with their remains.

Furthermore, the proposal outlines a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the war-torn region.

Advocating for a two-state solution

The Guyanese government underscored that a lasting resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict hinges on the implementation of the two-state solution.

They envision a future where a sovereign and independent Palestinian state exists within the pre-1967 borders, coexisting peacefully alongside Israel.

Call for international action

In light of the enduring conflict, which has spanned over six decades, Guyana has appealed to the global community to intensify its efforts to bring the hostilities to a definitive end.
