Dominica Economic Revival Summit 2024 set to propel sustainable growth

In a bid to foster sustainable growth and development, the main opposition United Workers Party (UWP) has announced the launch of the Dominica Economic Revival Summit 2024, slated for June.

Teaming up with the Electoral Reform Coalition (ERC), the UWP has organized the summit from June 4th to 6th under the overarching theme, “Planning for Sustainable Growth and Development.”

This summit aims to convene a diverse array of stakeholders, including government officials, business magnates, and experts across various domains, fostering constructive dialogue and collaborative efforts.

Addressing past shortcomings

Highlighting the pressing need for strategic economic planning, UWP’s political leader, Dr. Thomson Fontaine, underscored the detrimental effects of the past approach.

He lamented the lack of foresight in sustainable development strategies, attributing the country’s economic woes to over-reliance on revenues from the Citizenship by Investment Programme (CBI).

Fontaine emphasized the importance of inclusivity, calling for participation from all sectors, irrespective of political affiliations.

A multifaceted approach to economic renewal

The UWP outlined the summit’s thematic focus areas, spanning agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, construction, knowledge economy, and renewable energy.

By diversifying the economic landscape and fostering innovation, the party envisions a holistic transformation of Dominica’s economic trajectory.

Charting a path toward prosperity

Severin Mckenzie, a key figure within the ERC, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the summit’s pivotal role in shaping the country’s economic destiny.

He emphasized the need for a comprehensive masterplan, envisaging it as a guiding roadmap for Dominica’s future development.

Mckenzie drew attention to the intrinsic link between electoral reform and economic revitalization, emphasizing the ERC’s commitment to fostering holistic reforms for national progress.
