Daniel Pruce sworn in as new governor of British Virgin Islands

In a solemn ceremony on Monday, Justice Angelica Teelucksingh administered the oath of office to Daniel Pruce, officially ushering him into the role of the British Virgin Islands’ 15th governor. 

A seasoned career public servant and diplomat, Pruce assumes his new responsibilities with an unwavering commitment to facilitating positive change for all Virgin Islanders.

A pledge for collaborative governance

Addressing the assembled gathering, Governor Pruce expressed his deep honor at being entrusted with this crucial role and conveyed his sincere pledge to collaborate with all stakeholders dedicated to enhancing the lives of the Virgin Islands’ residents. 

In his inaugural address, Pruce outlined his vision for the territory, emphasizing his commitment to fostering cooperation with the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the Government of the Virgin Islands.

Pruce’s commitment extends to being an accessible leader, open to engagement with civil society, public servants, and the private sector. 

Furthermore, he stressed his dedication to advocating for the islands' interests within the United Kingdom’s government. 

“As Governor I look forward to collaborating with all those who have the best interests of the people of this Territory at heart, in positive and productive partnership.”, he added.

Safety, excellence in governance, and environmental conservation

Pruce outlined key priorities for his tenure, vowing to take comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of islanders amidst rising concerns about crime. 

Additionally, he pledged to champion excellence in governance and to actively support initiatives aimed at preserving the British Virgin Islands’ delicate environment.

Premier Wheatley extends warm welcome

Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley extended a warm welcome to Governor Pruce, underscoring the importance of their working relationship in the political landscape. 

Wheatley expressed optimism regarding Pruce’s tenure, particularly in the context of ongoing discussions between the United Kingdom and its overseas territories about greater self-determination.
