To help stop the spread of COVID-19, The Florida Department of Health in Broward County reminds everyone to practice social distancing, wash your hands often with soap and water and cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.

Coming up in the newscast, Broward announces new phone line to schedule vaccine appointments, Jamaicans to begin getting COVID-19 vaccine shot in April and Trinidad confirms first case of UK COVID-19 variant.

Now for the news in the detail

Caribbean-American seniors in Broward County can now make appointments to receive their COVID-19 vaccine by calling a new phone number. The Florida Health Department in Broward announced that seniors over 65 years and healthcare workers can schedule appointments by calling 866-201-6313. These vaccinations will be done at any of the six DOH-Broward COVID-19 vaccination sites. The health department said that at this time, the only way to request an appointment is by calling the phone number. Appointments were previously made through the website. People who call and request an appointment in the system will receive a call back when an appointment is available for them.

Now for Caribbean News,

In Jamaica, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton has announced the date that Jamaicans will begin getting vaccinated for COVID-19. April 21 is the date when Jamaica’s national vaccination campaign will begin. Tufton outlined details of the campaign, which will see politicians, healthcare workers, immigration officials and others getting the shot.

And in Trinidad and Tobago,

A returning resident from the United Kingdom has been confirmed as the country’s first case of the COVID-19 Variant. The patient provided a negative PCR test prior to departure from the UK. Upon arrival in Trinidad, the person was placed in state quarantine, where a positive test result was confirmed. Trinidad officials say it is not yet known if the returned national may have infected others. Jamaica is so far the only other Caribbean island with confirmed cases of the new variant.
