Broward County has set an Emergency Executive Curfew Order starting at 9:00 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2020.

The curfew is set for 7 days with from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. each day. The curfew is set due to civil unrest that threatens the health and safety of the community.

While the curfew order is in place through June 7th, consistent with the local state of emergency, Broward County will be assessing the ongoing need for a curfew on a daily basis based on credible threats of civil unrest.

Residents are permitted to travel between their home and their place of employment during the curfew and are also allowed to walk their pets near their residences. At this time, Broward County Transit is running as scheduled.

The curfew comes after hours of protesting and rallies in cities throughout the state including Miami and Downtown Fort Lauderdale.

In Broward, hundreds of people attended the protest which began at about 3 p.m. at Bubier Park along East Las Olas Boulevard, then took to the streets across Downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The protest began peacefully but was eventually disrupted when people began throwing water bottles and rocks at police vehicles and officers in protective gear, prompting law enforcement to deploy tear gas on several occasions.

A curfew from 9 p.m. on Sunday to 6 a.m. is in effect in Miami-Dade County until further notice.
