Broward begins sending ballots to military, overseas voters for November election

Broward County election officials are sending approximately 400 vote-by-mail ballots to military members and U.S. citizens living overseas ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.

The Broward County Supervisor of Elections said the ballots are being sent beginning Sept. 18 to voters covered by the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act, commonly known as UOCAVA.

The federal law provides absentee voting protections for eligible members of the U.S. uniformed services and their families, as well as U.S. citizens residing outside the country.

Eligible voters include active-duty members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, along with members of the Merchant Marine and other qualifying uniformed services. Certain National Guard and Reserve members and eligible family members may also qualify.

Military and overseas voters can register and request a vote-by-mail ballot using the Federal Post Card Application.

Unlike regular vote-by-mail voters, UOCAVA voters have additional options for receiving and returning their ballots. Broward election officials say completed UOCAVA ballots may be returned by mail or fax but cannot be returned by email.

The deadline to register to vote in Florida's Nov. 3 general election is Oct. 5.

Early voting in Broward County will run from Oct. 19 through Nov. 1, with voting available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Vote-by-mail ballots must be received by the Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day.
