Briana Williams, who helped Jamaica to a national record and the 4x100m title in Tokyo, was greeted by her mom at the airport, who broke the sad news.
Shortly after learning about her grandma's death, the 19-year old Olympic Champion informed her social media followers, who poured out their hearts in condolences.
"Just got home and found out that my dear grandmother, who lived with us, passed away soon after I left for the Olympics. They wisely decided to wait until after Tokyo to tell me. I dedicate my Olympic gold medal to her memory and for all she poured into me. Sleep well, Nenna. Thank you. I love you," she wrote on Facebook.
