Bogus online profile targets Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister ahead of by-election

A fake Facebook profile impersonating Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, has been flagged for removal.

The imposter profile has a notable error in the name, missing an “e” from “Browne.” Furthermore, it employs crude language and an atypical photograph to malign the Prime Minister.

Election fever heightens

The revelation of this fake profile comes at a pivotal moment for Antigua and Barbuda, as the nation gears up for the by-election in St Mary’s South scheduled for October 24.

Targeting the young electorate

The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) speculates that the motive behind this sham profile is to sway young voters.

The aim, they believe, is to diminish their confidence in Prime Minister Browne’s nine-year reign, capitalizing on the younger demographic’s inclination towards online content, particularly of the sensationalized kind the platform is known for.
