The Bahamas has been re-elected to the Council of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for another three-year term.
Prime Minister Philip Davis said the election took place in Paris and described the result as an opportunity for The Bahamas to continue contributing to international standards that influence trade and economic development.
“I congratulate the team whose efforts have secured another three-year term for The Bahamas on the Council,” Davis said in a statement Tuesday.
He commended Senator Kevin Simmons, Dr. Renae Ferguson-Bufford and others involved in securing the seat.
Davis said the re-election reflects The Bahamas’ commitment to advancing quality and strengthening competitiveness while giving the country a voice in discussions on global standards.
“As Dr. Ferguson-Bufford has noted, this seat ensures that The Bahamas remains ‘at the table’ where important global standards decisions are made,” Davis said.
He said the position is particularly significant for a small island nation because it provides an opportunity for the country’s national interests, businesses and citizens to inform the development of international standards.
Davis said The Bahamas will use its three-year term to strengthen international partnerships and support standards aimed at promoting economic opportunity and sustainable growth.
