Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister Gaston Browne has extended his congratulations to the country’s cohort of doctors who recently graduated from the Republic of Cuba.

The newly minted doctors—Dr. Jason Thwaites, Dr. Phillescia Jean, Dr. Grace Edwards, Dr. Doniece Thomas, and Dr. Lee-Ann Sandy—marked a significant milestone as they graduated from the Universidad de Ciencias Medicas de Holguin (University of Medical Sciences of Holguin) on Sunday.

Dr. Phillescia Jean graduated with top honors and was named the top Foreign Student.

Antigua and Barbuda’s medical cohorts

These newly minted medical professionals represent the first cohort of Antiguans and Barbudans to receive their medical degrees from Cuban universities this year.

The second cohort of medical students is expected to receive their degrees from Cuban universities later this year.

Prime Minister Browne’s vision for healthcare

Prime Minister Browne articulates his anticipation for the transformative impact these new doctors will have on Antigua and Barbuda’s healthcare landscape.

Expressing gratitude, he extends appreciation to the Cuban government and its people for their unwavering support toward the country's development endeavors.
