Antigua and Barbuda establishes embassy hub in Beijing

Prime Minister Gaston Browne marked a significant milestone by officially opening the Antigua and Barbuda Embassy in Beijing, China. 

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Sanlitun Diplomatic Compound in Beijing’s Chaoyang District.

Advancing diplomatic relations

Prime Minister Browne, in his address at the ceremony, underscored the embassy’s inauguration as a pivotal moment in the evolving partnership between the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the People’s Republic of China. 

This move symbolizes a remarkable leap forward in diplomatic relations.

The event also featured notable speakers, including Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to China, HE Brian Stuart Young, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, E. P. Chet Greene, and the Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, HE Xu Feihong.

Official visit: A weeklong agenda

Prime Minister Browne’s visit to Beijing extends beyond the embassy inauguration. 

Having arrived in the Chinese capital earlier this week, he conveyed his intent to further fortify the collaborative efforts between Antigua and Barbuda and the People’s Republic of China.

He emphasized that their relationship stands as a paragon of unity between a large nation and a small island state.

This year holds special significance as it marks the 41st anniversary of diplomatic relations between Antigua and Barbuda and the People’s Republic of China.
