Guatemala to open embassy in Guyana

Loop News- Relations between Guyana and Guatemala are heading in a positive direction as the Central American country plans to establish an embassy in Georgetown.

The embassy is expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2023, according to a report by Guyana’s Department of Public Information (DPI).

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Ambassador María Luisa Ramírez, is in Guyana for a series of meetings with representatives of the country aimed at boosting cooperation.

Ramírez met with Guyana’s Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud and they discussed areas of cooperation such as oil and gas, tourism, food security and climate change.

DPI reported the Vice Minister reaffirmed Guatemala’s commitment to closer cooperation between both countries, which have enjoyed over 30 years of diplomatic relations, and she also emphasized the importance of strong relations with the CARICOM region.
