According to reports shortly after 1:24 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 13, BSO traffic homicide detectives responded to the 7400 block of West McNab Road in Tamarac after a report of a vehicle versus vehicle crash. The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2019 Hyundai Tucson SUV was traveling westbound on West McNab Road turning left into the north entrance of the University Commons shopping mall. At the same time, Frantz Laine was driving a 2014 Lexus IS250 traveling eastbound on West McNab Road. The two vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes of the roadway.

The Hyundai was struck with such force the engine was detached from the vehicle before it flipped over and came to a final rest on the driver’s side. At least one occupant was ejected when the vehicle flipped over.

The Lexus was redirected off the roadway where it struck a fire hydrant, several bushes, a large plaza sign and rolled on top of an unoccupied parked 2016 Toyota Corolla before coming to a final rest in the parking lot at 7300 West McNab Road. After being struck, a piece of debris from the large plaza sign pierced an unoccupied parked 2009 Audi A4 parked in the area.

Tamarac Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Paramedics transported all five occupants to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for their injuries. The front passenger of the Hyundai was pronounced deceased. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
