Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez met with Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle and members of the State Attorney’s Office to discuss enforcement against the illegal use of disabled parking permits across Miami-Dade County.
The meeting focused on strengthening oversight and improving coordination between agencies in order to combat fraud involving parking permits intended for seniors, veterans and residents with verified disabilities.
Officials said the goal is to ensure that the program remains protected for those who legitimately rely on it, while increasing accountability for misuse and falsification of permits.
“Protecting disabled parking permits is about protecting the residents who depend on them,” Fernandez said. “We will not tolerate fraud or abuse in Miami-Dade County, and anyone illegally using or falsifying these permits will face consequences.”
Fernandez, who serves as Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration with prosecutors and law enforcement to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and improve compliance monitoring.
He said safeguarding public programs requires consistent oversight and that maintaining accountability is central to ensuring fair access to county services.
The State Attorney’s Office and the Tax Collector’s Office also discussed potential improvements to enforcement processes aimed at detecting misuse more effectively and reinforcing penalties where violations occur.
Both offices reaffirmed their commitment to protecting public resources and ensuring that county services operate with transparency, fairness and integrity.
