A 44-year-old Miami-Dade woman was taken into custody on Tuesday, facing a slew of charges related to her alleged operation of an illegal cosmetic post-operative recovery home.
The charges filed against Yudania Gomez-Reinoso include operating an assisted living facility without a license, failure to track biomedical waste, hazardous waste violation, creating nuisances injurious to health, and violating Florida’s litter law.
A tipped-off detective unveils the operation
Reports are that a detective received information regarding an unlicensed cosmetic post-operative recovery home operating at 1790 Northwest 109th Street.
Under the guise of “Wow Recovery,” the establishment was allegedly being managed by Gomez-Reinoso without the necessary license.
Executing the search warrant
On Tuesday, law enforcement investigators executed a search warrant at the premises and found five women at different stages of post-operative recovery.
It is reported that three employees of the home were questioned and revealed that they provided a range of services to patients, including bathing, dressing, meal assistance, personal hygiene, medication administration, and transportation services.
The patients reported being charged rates, ranging from $200 to $300 per night for these services.
Contaminated items found
Investigators further discovered that the operation was not just unlicensed but also lacked proper waste management practices.
Trash containers at the property yielded shocking evidence, revealing “large quantities of contaminated plastics and cloth,” including bandages, adult diapers, gloves, medical absorbent pads, bed pads, and gowns.
Items were also found in trash cans inside the home. Reports are that none of the materials were marked as biohazard or medical waste.
Gomez-Reinoso stated that she believed the property was appropriately licensed.
She was arrested and booked into jail, and later released on bond.
