Lauderhill proclaims Dec. 5 ‘Apostle Edison and Prophetess Mattie Day’

The City of Lauderhill has officially declared December 5 as Apostle Edison and Prophetess Mattie Nottage Day, honoring the couple’s decades of faith-based service, community leadership, and outreach. The proclamation was presented during Friday night’s “Prayer in the Park” event at Lauderhill Sports Park, where residents gathered for an evening of worship and reflection.

The recognition, celebrated by the couple’s followers online, was described as a historic moment. A message posted to their ministry’s Facebook page read in part: “This honor recognizes decades of faith, service, leadership, and love poured into the community… From the pulpit to the people, from prayer to action, from vision to impact.”

The proclamation was delivered by Lauderhill Mayor Denise D. Grant, who praised Apostle Edison and Prophetess Mattie Nottage for their longstanding support of families and youth in the community. Their ministry is located just across Oakland Park Boulevard.

Both are well-known Bahamian Christian leaders, speakers, and founders of Believers Faith Outreach Ministries International (BFOMI), headquartered in Nassau, Bahamas, with an extension in South Florida. They’re known for hosting large prayer gatherings, revivals, and deliverance services, which typically draw people from across the Caribbean and the diaspora.

Ahead of the Lauderhill gathering, Prophetess Mattie Nottage shared her anticipation in a social media post, saying she believed “God is getting ready to do something extraordinary right here in this community,” and encouraged residents from Lauderhill and neighboring cities to attend.

During the prayer service, attendees offered prayers for Lauderhill—particularly for young people, violence reduction, and community unity—as well as for Jamaica, which is still recovering from Hurricane Melissa. Organizers said the turnout reflected a strong sense of togetherness, with people joining the gathering from the surrounding streets throughout the night.

Community members and city officials extended congratulations to Apostle Edison and Prophetess Mattie Nottage for the civic honor, and thanked Mayor Grant for recognizing their contributions.
