Florida teen honored for making history by jumping from 9th to 12th grade

Janiya Baker, a 15-year-old student at Homestead High School in Florida, has made history in the Miami-Dade County Public School district.

She recently advanced from the 9th grade directly to the 12th, becoming the first student ever to accomplish such an academic feat in the district. In honor of her achievement, a ceremony will be held at Homestead City Hall.

Not just an academic marvel

According to media reports, Baker’s remarkable advancement was not made at the expense of other activities. She balances her academic commitments with a busy extra-curricular schedule, serving as a varsity cheerleader and class president. 

Moreover, she has achieved the highest grade point average among her peers at Homestead High School.

As for her future plans, Baker intends to attend Florida International University where she aims to major in business. She also hopes to continue her cheerleading career at the collegiate level.
