Former President of the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU), Colwyn King, was on Friday convicted of rape by a jury in the Georgetown High Court.
King was found unanimously guilty on two counts of rape of a child under the age of 16 years old before Justice Simone Morris.
The incidents occurred in April 2021. The first assault took place at night when no one else was present, while the second occurred in the afternoon, again in isolation. The virtual complainant is identified as a female who was six years old at the time of the incident.
King previously faced a similar rape charge in 2009, but was acquitted by a jury in 2016 following a trial at the High Court. King had been out on bail during the proceedings but was immediately remanded to prison following the jury’s verdict. His sentencing has been set for July 17, 2025.
