Embattled MP George Wright Returns to Parliament

Embattled Jamaican member of parliament (MP) George Wright is back in Gordon House.

The Westmoreland Central MP sat briefly on Opposition benches during a sitting of parliament on June 8th, where Gender Affairs Minister Olivia Grange made her contribution to the Sectoral Debate.

Wright’s leave of absence from the House of Representatives was scheduled to end on June 21.

George Wright has been embroiled in an assault scandal since April over allegations that he was the man in a video beating a woman with a stool. The MP has not denied being the person battering the woman said to be his common-law partner.

He did however resign from the ruling Jamaica Labour Party last Friday, after being pressured to do so by several local and diaspora organizations.
