Colorado-based Jamaican pastor being sought in connection with woman’s death

Jamaican police investigators in Westmoreland are appealing to a Jamaican clergyman currently residing in Colorado, United States, to urgently contact them in connection with a disturbing case involving the concealed body of a 72-year-old woman.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) identified the man as Delroy Jones, a Jamaican national, and said he is being sought as a person of interest in the investigation surrounding the death and concealment of a body believed to be Viola Destin. The mummified remains of the elderly woman were discovered on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at a home in Old Hope District, Little London, Westmoreland.

“Mr. Jones may be able to significantly assist with this investigation,” the JCF said in a public statement Wednesday. They urged him to contact the Westmoreland Police at 876-955-2758, Police Emergency at 119, the NIB Tip Line at 811, Crime Stop at 311, or to report to the nearest police station.

Members of the public who may know Mr. Jones’ whereabouts are also being encouraged to share information confidentially.

Meanwhile, two women have been formally charged in connection with the case.

Police say 54-year-old Gena Robinson of Old Hope District and 49-year-old Lavern Wedderburn of Rocky Hill in Sheffield face five charges:

  • Concealment of a Corpse

  • Preventing the Lawful Burial of a Corpse

  • Perverting the Course of Justice

According to reports from the Savanna-la-Mar Police, Wedderburn saw Ms. Destin begging in Savanna-la-Mar sometime in 2023 and informed Robinson of her dire living conditions. The two women allegedly sought guidance from a pastor overseas, and following his advice, began caring for Destin.

Destin reportedly became seriously ill and died on December 10, 2023, at Robinson’s residence in Old Hope District. Instead of reporting her death, the two women allegedly concealed her remains inside a room in the house, using chemicals and baking soda to suppress the odor.

A relative of Ms. Robinson stumbled upon the makeshift grave at the house on Sunday, July 6, and summoned the police. On their arrival, the mummified remains of the elderly woman were found covered beneath sheets, plastic, and tarpaulin.

Robinson was taken into custody the same day the body was discovered, and Wedderburn was arrested three days later. The police said both women gave caution statements and confessed during question-and-answer sessions in the presence of two Justices of the Peace.

A court date is being finalized.
