Minister Curtis King expressed heartfelt appreciation to Taiwan for its ongoing support of education in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), including initiatives such as the MOFA Taiwan Scholarship, ICDF Scholarship, and the Bursary Scholarship, which benefits students at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

Ambassador Fiona Fan congratulated the scholarship recipients and shared that this year, 524 students from various educational levels, including primary, secondary, tertiary, and technical institutions, will receive financial support. A total of 320,600 EC$ has been allocated for the scholarships. Since the program’s launch in 1998, over 11,000 Vincentian students have benefitted.

With the help of the Ministry of Education, students from different schools and divisions were selected to receive the bursary. Ambassador Fan emphasized that Taiwan is proud to contribute to expanding educational opportunities for the youth of SVG, noting that education plays a crucial role in both personal advancement and national economic development.

“We congratulate each scholarship recipient and encourage you to take full advantage of the education made possible through this bursary,” said Ambassador Fiona Huei Chun Fan. “Work diligently in your studies, as education has the power to transform lives. We firmly believe that one day, you will contribute your knowledge not only to your country but to the world as well.”

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in 1981, the two countries have collaborated on numerous initiatives, particularly in the field of education. This year, 33 Vincentian students were awarded scholarships to study in Taiwan. Over the past 20 years, 269 Vincentian youths have traveled to Taiwan to pursue degrees in fields such as computer science, medicine, agriculture, energy, tourism, business, and more.

Taiwan remains committed to continuing its cooperation with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, particularly in supporting education reform and fostering further opportunities for Vincentian students.
