Jamaican police in Portland have launched a search operation following a robbery involving two American tourists who fell victim to a group of unidentified assailants over the weekend.
They were not physically harmed.
Tourists targeted at Folly Ruins
Reports are that the foreign nationals, both students of Alaska, were reportedly robbed at the Folly Ruins attraction on Sunday.
It is reported that the Americans, who were vacationing in Portland, went to Winnifred Beach in Fairy Hill.
Later in the day, seeking transportation to their intended destination of Port Antonio, they opted for a local motor vehicle operating as a taxi.
Encounter with armed assailants
According to reports, the driver took the tourists to Folly Ruins where they were approached by three masked men armed with knives.
The men robbed the visitors of cash in US and Jamaican currency, cellular phones and debit and credit cards.
