The Sandals Foundation announced an investment of approximately USD $110,000 in Caribbean education for the new academic year.
Sandals says the contribution aims to enhance educational opportunities across the region through scholarships, infrastructure improvements, teacher training, and the provision of essential school supplies.
A press release from the foundation states that the foundation’s Care for Kids Scholarship Program forms a cornerstone of this initiative, allocating nearly $70,000 to support 42 secondary and tertiary students in 2024.
This program goes beyond mere financial assistance, offering a comprehensive support system that includes coverage for medical expenses and housing, as well as mentorship opportunities.
Heidi Clarke, Executive Director of the Sandals Foundation says “Education is more than just a gateway to knowledge—it’s a lifeline to hope and opportunity,” Clarke stated. “Over the years, I’ve witnessed how these scholarships have changed lives in truly inspiring ways, with students growing into successful professionals.”
The impact of the foundation’s efforts is evident in the Turks and Caicos Islands, where local schools have benefited significantly from the support.
Sophia Garland, Principal of the Enid Capron Primary School, thanked the foundation for its consistent contributions: “Sandals Foundation remains our major donor, consistently providing materials that help enhance our students’ learning experience.”
Garland detailed recent improvements, including the installation of a water filtration system, an artificial surface for the early childhood division’s play area, and the construction of multiple benches around the school.
She also noted the expansion of the school’s farming project, which focuses on training students in composting and food security.
The $110,000 investment is part of the Sandals Foundation’s broader commitment to enhancing the education sector throughout the Caribbean. By providing resources and creating holistic learning environments, the foundation aims to support students of all ages in their academic journeys.
