Belizean Prime Minister John Briceño has embarked on a brief personal leave in Rome ahead of an encounter in Vatican City with Pope Francis.
The Office of the Prime Minister disclosed this development in a statement released on Tuesday.
Unveiling the travel plans
The official statement, while not stating the exact date of the meeting with the spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church, assured that Briceño is scheduled to return to his home country on January 7.
The purpose of the Prime Minister’s trip to the Vatican remains undisclosed.
Deputy Prime Minister to step in
In his absence, Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde, who also serves as the Minister of Natural Resources, Petroleum, and Mining, will assume the role of acting prime minister.
