Jamaica’s Ministry of Labor and Social Security has reported that a Jamaican farm worker died last month while in Ontario, Canada.
His identity has not been released.
According to a statement by the ministry on Monday, the 32-year-old worker died on May 26. He worked on a farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
According to reports, the Jamaican Liaison Service in Canada was informed that the farm worker had not awakened that morning.
The Paramedics’ attempts at resuscitation were reportedly futile.
The Labor Ministry says a subsequent report confirmed that the death was caused by natural causes.
The ministry further says that its Family Services Unit has been providing psychosocial support to the deceased’s family in Jamaica.
Preparations are being made to have the body repatriated to Jamaica.
