Haitian nationals intercepted en route to Turks and Caicos Islands

A total of 156 Haitian nationals have been held at a detention center after their vessel was intercepted on Friday evening.

The vessel was heading for the Turks and Caicos Islands

Reports are that around 9:30 p.m., an illegal vessel carrying the group was detected by the United States Border and Customs aircraft. 

Swift intervention near West Caicos

According to reports, the Marine Branch officers took action, stopping the vessel eight miles southwest of West Caicos.

The boat, filled with 139 males and 17 females, was then towed to South Dock Port.

Upon arrival, the group was handed over to the Immigration Department for the necessary processing.

Applause for international teamwork

Acting Commissioner of Police, Rodney Adams, praised the successful operation and expressed that the interception is indicative of global partnership working. 

“I wish to extend my thanks and appreciation to our partners locally, regionally, and internationally who have contributed to the successful interception and the safe custody of all onboard that sloop. To the teams involved, Bravo Zulu,” he said. 

The public is being asked to contact 911, the closest police station, or call TCI Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 and give any information on any illegal activity anonymously.
