An executive member of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA), Kidackie Amsterdam, has been charged under the Cyber Crime Act for using a computer system to encourage or incite criminal actions against the President of Guyana.
Amsterdam, 46, from East Coast Demerara, appeared in court on Thursday, pleading not guilty to the charge. He was granted bail set at GY$200,000 and is scheduled to return to court on June 10 for further statements.
Details of the incident
According to the police, Amsterdam was implicated in an incident where he allegedly used a computer system to incite persons to commit a criminal offence against the President of Guyana.
The charge was formally read to him in court, and he maintained his innocence.
Court proceedings
The case has been adjourned to June 10 and transferred to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for the presentation of statements.
Amsterdam’s legal battle continues as the court prepares to hear further details of the case.
Video evidence surfaces
In a video released by the police, Amsterdam was seen interacting with a male caller on his show.
During the exchange, the caller suggested that President Ali, Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, Attorney General Anil Nandlall, and Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh should be beheaded.
Following this development, Amsterdam was arrested on Tuesday.
