Expanding ganja privileges: A new chapter for Jamaica’s Rastafarian community

Jamaica’s Minister of Culture, Olivia Babsy Grange, announced expanded opportunities for the Rastafarian community and cannabis farmers in the nation’s cannabis industry.

She made the announcement while delivering closing remarks at the Cannabis Expo at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Saturday.

A harmony of agreements: Religion meets regulation

According to Minister Grange, a series of new agreements was established after discussions with the government and the Rastafarian community regarding additional locations for the religious use of ganja, to be included in the amended Dangerous Drugs Act. 

Sacred spaces: Embracing spiritual diversity

She further said that sacramental spaces will permit the use of marijuana for individuals who are 18 years and older.

These spaces will be accessible to adherents of the Rastafari faith and those from similar religious groups.
