St. Vincent and the Grenadines has witnessed a significant rise in hotel occupancy rates recently. This surge is largely due to the influx of visitors for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the anticipated Vincy Mas celebrations.
During this period, various hotels have reported impressive occupancy statistics, with overall rates reaching 75 per cent and some major hotels nearing full capacity.
Impact of International Cricket
The ICC World Cup has been a major contributor to this increase, with around 4,000 nights booked across different hotels.
This event alone has not only brought spectators to the island but also technical staff and team members.
Specifically, over 1,600 rooms have been occupied by these groups, underscoring the significant impact of international sporting events on local tourism.
Preparations for peak capacity
With the final matches of the ICC World Cup approaching, there is an expected shortage of available accommodation.
Tourism Minister Carlos James has emphasized the need for additional room stock and is actively encouraging Airbnb providers and unlicensed providers to register with the Tourism Authority.
This move aims to accommodate the surge in demand and ensure all visitors have suitable lodging options.
Anticipating the Vincy Mas Festival
Looking ahead to the Vincy Mas, which is set to run from June 28 to July 9, 2024, there is already a noticeable increase in air transportation bookings.
One airline has reported a 75 per cent load factor extending through to the end of August, indicating strong visitor interest.
Hotel bookings for this period are also robust, with occupancy rates expected to climb, potentially reaching full capacity as the festival draws closer.
