Barbados passport the most powerful in the Caribbean

For the ninth straight year, Barbados again holds the title of the most powerful passport in the Caribbean region, according to a recent report.

According to the 2024 Henley Passport Index ranking, released by London-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners, Barbados is number one in the Caribbean and is positioned globally at number 22 with visa-free access to 165 countries.

Rounding out the top 5 most powerful Caribbean passports are The Bahamas, St Kitts and Nevis/St Vincent and the Grenadines (tied at No. 3), Antigua and Barbuda, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Jamaican passport ranking

Jamaica ranks 10th on the list of most powerful Caribbean passports, after improving its 2023 ranking.

Jamaica comes in at position 60 globally for 2024. Last year, the country was ranked 63rd globally, 65th in 2022, and 68th in 2021.

The Jamaican passport allows visa-free access to 90 destinations, including Singapore, Russia, Serbia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Kenya, and South Africa.

The most powerful passports in the Caribbean for 2024 are:

1. Barbados, with visa-free access to 165 destinations

2. The Bahamas, with visa-free access to 158 destinations

8. Belize, with visa-free access to 104 countries

9. Guyana, with visa-free access to 91 countries

10. Jamaica, with visa-free access to 90 countries

Which country has the most powerful passport in the world?

In a groundbreaking development on the 2024 Henley Passport Index, an unprecedented achievement is witnessed as six countries jointly claim the top spot for visa-free access to a record-breaking number of destinations. This esteemed ranking relies on exclusive and official data from the International Air Transport Association.

France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, and Singapore have all secured the prestigious position of possessing the most powerful passport globally in 2024. These nations grant their passport holders visa-free access to an impressive 194 destinations.

On the flip side, Afghanistan holds the distinction of having the least powerful passport in the world. Ranked at number 104, it provides visa-free access to a modest 28 destinations.

The Henley Passport Index is the original and most authoritative ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.

The index includes 199 passports and 227 travel destinations.
