The award will be presented to the former reggae artist at a special event organized by Back 2 Da Future Music Limited at the Audi Showroom in Jamaica on Tuesday, August 13.

“Chevelle’s remarkable career has played an integral role in shaping the 90’s dancehall landscape. Her powerful and soulful voice has graced numerous hits, solidifying her status as one of the most influential vocalists in reggae and dancehall history. Chevelle is one of many artistes whose contributions have significantly impacted reggae and dancehall music. We are thrilled to honor her and others this year,” Kennedy Mensah of Back 2 Da Future Music said.

Franklyn will be honored for her backing vocals on Xtra Naked. The presentation is part of a broader initiative by Back 2 Da Future Music Limited to distribute almost 100 uncollected Grammy certificates to musicians in the reggae industry. Approximately 50 will be presented in Jamaica, with others distributed to recipients in Florida and the United Kingdom.

Franklyn says she was grateful for recognition and the hard work of those involved “A massive thank you to Back 2 Da Future for their hard work and dedication to representing musicians and artistes like me with excellence!” she added.

In 1998 Franklyn was about to perform “Dancehall Queen” on stage during a concert and instead performed Kirk Franklin’s gospel song “Silver and Gold”, announcing that she had become a Christian. Prior to going gospel, Chevelle Franklyn was one of the most prolific female artistes of the 1990s reggae and dancehall musical landscape. She has collaborated with numerous legendary artistes such as Spragga Benz, Shabba Ranks, Lady G and Beenie Man. She has made significant contributions to not just the reggae music genre but other genres of music as well. She continues to be an active and inspirational figure in the music industry.
