The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has detained a Dominican Republic national in Baltimore, wanted in his home country on manslaughter charges.
According to ICE, deportation officers from ERO Baltimore’s Fugitive Operations Team apprehended the 27-year-old at his residence in Baltimore.
Threat to Maryland communities
Acting Field Office Director Matthew Elliston emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “This Dominican national came to Maryland in an attempt to evade a serious charge in his home country.”
Elliston further highlighted the risk posed by the individual, asserting, “He posed a significant threat to our Maryland communities. ERO Baltimore will not allow Maryland to become a safe haven for the world’s criminals.”
Unlawful entry and outstanding charges
ICE revealed that the Dominican Republic citizen unlawfully entered the United States, with no record of inspection, admission, or parole by a US immigration official.
Dominican Republic authorities had charged him for causing death on September 21, 2022, and subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest.
Additional legal issues
Further complicating matters, the Dade County Police Department in Miami, Florida, cited the fugitive on May 4 of last year for driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
A week later, ERO Philadelphia notified ERO Baltimore that the vehicle was located at the scene of a drug distribution and trafficking investigation in Baltimore.
ICE confirmed that the fugitive will remain in custody pending the outcome of his removal proceedings.
