Ministry’s involvement
Bahamas’ Foreign Affairs Minister Fred Mitchell addressed the media yesterday, shedding light on the government’s efforts to assist Knowles and two other Bahamian nationals caught in the turmoil.
Mitchell revealed that one of the Bahamians had successfully left Israel and is in Morocco.
Challenges in the absence of diplomatic presence
While Bahamas does not maintain a diplomatic presence in Israel, Mitchell emphasized that the State of Israel holds a fundamental responsibility to protect non-citizens within its borders.
He expressed confidence that Israel would adhere to international norms in this regard.
Mitchell also conveyed the ministry’s commitment to offering any necessary consular assistance, leveraging support from their international allies to ensure the safety and well-being of the Bahamian nationals.
