CARICOM urges immediate ceasefire amidst Israel-Gaza tensions

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has expressed its dismay over the recent violent developments unfolding in Israel, along with the subsequent retaliatory actions taking place in Gaza, Palestine.

CARICOM has condemned the brutal nature of these attacks and counterattacks, highlighting their departure from the principles of civilized living and existence.

Advocacy for peaceful resolution

In the midst of a scenario marked by the tragic loss of innocent lives due to the unbridled fervor and aggressive actions by combatants on both sides, CARICOM aligns itself with other responsible entities within the global community.

Together, they urge an immediate cessation of all hostilities and call for a ceasefire to be observed by all involved parties without delay.

Addressing deep-rooted issues

The recent surge in hostilities, according to CARICOM, mirrors the deep pain and long-standing suffering rooted in ancient disputes between the conflicting parties.

It emphasizes the perpetuating cycle of violence fueled by the harsh living conditions endured by Palestinians, living under what is described as ‘veritable colonialism’, and by the continuous state of insecurity experienced by Israel.

Until these crucial issues are addressed with the seriousness they warrant, the cycle of violence is likely to persist.

Support for UN initiatives

In light of the ongoing crisis, CARICOM reaffirms its unwavering support for United Nations Security Council Resolution 242.

It acknowledges and backs the sustained efforts made by the United Nations to establish peace in the conflicted region, advocating for a two-state solution as the optimal approach to ensure lasting peace, security, and tranquility between Israel and Palestine.
