The attack marked one of the most devastating in decades, prompting widespread concern and denunciation.

During the conference, DeSantis expressed solidarity with Israel, advocating for Americans and Floridians to support both the nation and its citizens during these troubling times.

Turbulent times

Israel’s retaliation to the deadly aggression was swift with its warplanes relentlessly targeting downtown Gaza City, a known stronghold of the Hamas government.

The conflict erupted after a bold incursion by Hamas militants into Israel over the weekend, resulting in extensive gunfights on the streets.

The ongoing confrontation has resulted in the loss of at least 1,600 lives.

Governor DeSantis targets Hamas

Governor DeSantis explicitly criticized the militant group Hamas during his address.

He asserted that if groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, along with some Palestinian Arabs, were to disarm, it could pave the way for peace. Conversely, he warned that if Israel were to disarm, it could mean the demise of the Jewish state.

As the situation remains volatile, concerns are rising about a possible ground invasion by Israel. Moreover, Hamas’ threats to execute captive Israelis if preemptive warnings are not provided before strikes have further intensified the atmosphere.

Reports suggest that Hamas and affiliated groups are holding more than 150 Israeli soldiers and civilians.

Increasing Florida sanctions on Iran

Moreover, Governor DeSantis declared his intention to escalate sanctions on Iran by the state of Florida, marking a clear and determined stance against states sponsoring terrorism.

The proposed legislation, which will be introduced in the upcoming legislative session, aims not only to reinforce but also to expand the prohibition on state investments in various sectors of Iranian businesses, including finance, construction, manufacturing, textile, technology, mining, metals, shipping, shipbuilding, and port sectors.

This legislation, if passed, will restrict state and local governments in Florida from entering contracts with companies linked to these expanded sectors.

The sanctions will only be reconsidered when there is confirmation from the U.S. President and Congress that Iran has ceased its support for global terrorism and its pursuits of weapons of mass destruction.
